Geofences and iBeacons

Please note that these features are only available if  your application allows the collect of geolocation data. It is in this section that you can manage geolocation data.

  • Go to menu Targeting > Geofencing / iBeacon
  • Add other applications if you want to manage geofences, iBeacons and groups for several applications at the same time and click on submit. Indeed, you can manage data for multiple applications at once :

  • Click on the desired tab : Geofence, iBeacon or Group

iBeacon and Geofence

iBeacon is a technology that enables to trigger message display on a mobile user's phone when he (or she) enters (or leaves) a specific area around an iBeacon. Accengage enables you to upload iBeacons and use them as a trigger for your scheduled alarms or in-app messages. Geofencing is a technique that allows to trigger the sending of a message on a mobile user's device, when he enters a defined geographic area, alsocalled geofence.

Please note that these features are only available if you have already agreed to the collection of your application's geolocation data.

Step 1 : Importing iBeacons or Geofences in the database

  • To import several iBeacons or Geofences at once, you can do so by importing a CSV file
  • Click on the tooltip next to the button " Import iBeacon " or "Import Geofence", and click on “Example file” to download the template and the various fields necessary for the constitution of your file.

iBeacon

Geofence

  • Once your file is ready, upload it to the interface
  • Link the fields from the first line of your csv file and confirm the import
  • A confirmation message will appears. Your iBeacons or Geofences are then available in the database
  • You can also add a single IBeacon or Geofence directly via the interface
  • Click on the button "Add IBeacon" or "Add Geofence"
  • Complete all required fields
  • Click on "Save"
  • A confirmation message will appear. Your iBeacon or Geofence is then available in the database

You also have the option to export the datatase or update its data by importing a new file (in the last case, make sure to keep the same ID).

Step 2 : Editing or deleting iBeacons or Geofences

  • The datatable lists all iBeacons or Geofences belonging to selected applications

iBeacon

Geofence

  • An iBeacon or Geofence, after being imported or added, is instantly visible in the list
  • You can edit or delete it directly via the datatable

Step 3 : Using an iBeacon or Geofence as a targeting criterion

On the form of a scheduled alarm or in-app message:

  • Go to the “Triggers” section, click on the (+) button of “iBeacon” or “Geofence”:
  • A dropdown list with the different points or groups that you downloaded or added will be displayed
  • Exclusive to iBeacons: you need to choose between an entry or exit transition. For entry transitions, there are three distances possible:

    • immediate (concerns about 3% of the iBeacons maximum reach)
    • near (about 20% of the iBeacons maximum reach, which includes the immediate area)
    • far (100% of the iBeacons maximum reach including immediate and near areas)
  • Select the iBeacon(s) or Geofence(s) you want to use and finalize the completion of your form (message content, target...)
  • Save or activate the message.

Use case examples

  1. Enticing users to present their loyalty card at the till: Thanks to an iBeacon positioned near a store's tills, a message can be pushed to entice app users to present their loyalty cards when standing in the checkout line. On click of the notification, the loyalty card is automatically opened to allow the scanning of its barcode at the till.
  2. Entertaining users in a queue: Place an iBeacon half way through a waiting queue and activate a message offering to launch a game while users are waiting.
  3. Pushing personal information when entering a bank agency: Inform a user that his checkbook is available at the central desk when he enters the agency

Group

You can regroup several iBeacons or Geofences in a same group in order to trigger a message on multiple points by only selecting the concerned group(s) (instead of selecting each geofence or ibeacon one by one). To do this, when importing an iBeacon or Geofence , you can fill in the "group extern ID" or "internal group ID" field in order to create the association with the group.

Please note that :

  • Before associating a geofence or ibeacon to a group, you first need to create the group.
  • These features are only available if you have already agreed to the collection of your application's geolocation data

Step 1 : Creating groups in the database

  • You can create several groups at a time thanks to the import feature, click on the tooltip next to the "Import Groups" button, and click on “Example file” to see the various fields necessary for the constitution of your file. Finally, you can specify an external group ID for your own management.

  • Once your file is ready, upload it to the interface
  • Link the fields from the first line of your csv file and confirm the import
  • A confirmation message will appear. Your groups are then available in the database
  • To add a single Group, click on the "Add Group" button
  • Complete all required fields
  • Click on "Save"
  • A confirmation message will appear. Your group is then available in the database

You also have the option to export data.

Step 2 : Editing or deleting a group

  • The datatable lists all Groups belonging to the selected applications

  • After being imported or added, a group is instantly visible in the list
  • You can edit or delete it directly via the Accengage interface

Step 3 : Using your group as a targeting criterion

When creating or editing a scheduled alarm or in-app message:

  • Go to the “Triggers” section, click on (+) button of “iBeacon” or “Geofence”:
  • A dropdown list with the all downloaded or added groups will be displayed
  • Select the group(s) you want to use (Please note, if a group contains iBeacons and Geofences and you would like the message to be triggered on both type of points, the group needs to be selected in both the iBeacon and Geofence fields).
  • Finalize the completion of your form (message content, target...)
  • Save or activate the message.
